Facts About Maple Creek Energy II

Maple Creek Energy II ("Maple Creek II") is the second phase of a proposed lower-carbon electric generating facility located in Fairbanks Township, Sullivan County, Indiana. This facility will be located on additional acreage, contiguous to Maple Creek Energy Phase 1.

ENERGY PRODUCTION

Generating Capacity: Maple Creek II will be a modern, high-efficiency, natural gas electric-generation facility that will produce approximately 640 megawatts (MW) of electricity — enough to power more than 600,000 Indiana homes.

Energy for Indiana: Power generated by the facility will flow directly into the regional power system managed by MISO, helping to fill the capacity gap created by 6,400 MW of generation retirements expected by 2030.

State-of-the-Art Technology: Maple Creek II will use state-of-the-art combined cycle turbine (CCGT) technology, producing power efficiently by capturing waste heat to generate additional electricity through a steam turbine.

Clean, Domestic Fuel Source: Natural gas is a clean, abundant, domestically available fuel source that promotes U.S. energy independence.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

Small Footprint: Maple Creek II will be co-located within the same small footprint as Maple Creek, increasing the 25-acre Maple Creek facility by an additional 25 acres. The project will be set back 1,250 feet from Route 63. Both facilities will exist within a 170-acre parcel, with existing electrical infrastructure and nearby natural gas interconnections.

Carbon Displacement: The technology at Maple Creek II will generate electricity with approximately 65% less CO2 emissions compared to a coal generating facility, and 35% less than a typical single-cycle natural gas generator.

Air Quality: The facility will meet National Ambient Air Quality Standards as established in the Clean Air Act. These standards protect public health and the environment.

Water Usage: Maple Creek II will not discharge water offsite. Process water will be recycled and reused within the facility. This recycling, combined with the use of efficient air-cooling technology, dramatically reduces the water requirements of the facility.

Sound Mitigation: The facility will include best practice acoustic mitigation strategies such as enclosing the generating equipment.

Traffic Management: Maple Creek will enter into an agreement with the county to protect or improve local road infrastructure and support local labor needs during construction. Vehicles are expected to access the site off State Route 63, and shift changes will be managed to ensure efficient and safe entry and exit to and from the facility site.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Construction Jobs: Maple Creek Energy II will create up to 550 construction jobs over the expected two-to three-year construction period. We prioritize sourcing jobs from local and regional labor.

Post-construction Jobs: Once in operation, Maple Creek Energy II will supplement the number of full-time jobs required by Maple Creek Energy by up to five. Full-time jobs needed for both facilities will total approximately 25.

Indirect Jobs: The Maple Creek facilities will create additional employment opportunities, including contracted services such as security, catering, landscaping, and property maintenance, and more.

ECONOMIC BENEFITS

Investment: Maple Creek II will be a $1 billion capital investment in Sullivan County.

Tax Abatement: Maple Creek II will provide economic development payments directly to Sullivan County to ensure that the tax value created by the facility targets local priorities.

Local Infrastructure Support: Maple Creek II is expected to benefit the local municipal water system through the purchase of water and associated delivery services.

Local Purchasing: The facility will boost the Sullivan County economy by buying local goods and services. Employees working during construction and operations will stay in the county and support local businesses, adding further economic benefits.
